Creating Fluidity between the Scholarly and the Studio; Using Score Materials Within a Curriculum Jack CLARK This session provides hands-on practice with score materials and methodologies, which provide a dynamic exchange between studio life, dance scholarship, technology issues and score use within the curriculum. During my tenure at Florida State University I have infiltrated score use within courses in: Dance Appreciation; Repertory; Dance History; Music and Dance; Labanotation; Musical Theatre Workshop; and Non Major dance classes. Materials will be offered in this session that provide both teacher and student the means of creating a dynamic interaction between dance studies, studio practice with score use. Participants will be introduced to excerpts of repertory, scores, and supportive materials that I find meet my needs in... 1) Preparing and building a broad repertory base & developing mini lessons in dance heritage. 2) Linking the study of repertory to issues of dance history and philosophy. 3) Supporting the "performance" of a broad repertory base, linking the performance of the work to the choreographic mind. A future computer-literacy course is being looked at which will also satisfying our Labanotation requirements. Participants will be shown how a simplified introduction in the use of PowerPoint, danceCodes, iMovie, & Photoshop along w/ LabanWriter 4.1 can be infused into notation training process. Examples of my and students' work will be provided. |
