Alphabet Laban/A-Zenaide: Theoretical and pratical background of Anjos de Deus

The alphabet Laban/A-Zenaide, was created in April 2005 with the aim of teaching the children of São Luís community belonging to Anjos de Deus theater group how to read and write, the project being of my authorship, the project was founded in February 2004, under a leafy cashew tree scenario of a poverty-reality story in the city of João Pessoa, state of Paraíba, northeast region of the country.
From the creation of the alphabet, the group formed by children and teenagers, started studying musical sheet associating movement-phoneme-letter-syllable word or vice-versa. In order to facilitate the learning of children associating scores created by Rudolf von Laban, letters of the alphabet, we created a database in which every child is constructing of words, written record in individual sheets of musical sheets-words, built to be read by other students and the use of the database as a reference for construction of choreographies as in the case of the play: Pé de Boi, movements such as Bia, boi, cubo, dedo, faca... which are danced by children.
Adriana Zenaide Vieira de Melo is graduated in Pedagogy at the Federal University of Paraiba with a specialization degree in basic education and theater representation, both at UFPB. Founder and director of Anjos de Deus theater group. Since 2005, she has been applying the Laban/Bartenieff system on Anjo de Deus theater group project for which she created the Laban/A-Zenaide alphabet.
In 2008, she attended the International Laban 2008 Conference: Scenic Arts and New Territories at the Centre of Choreography of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Title of her work/communication: The Laban/Bartenieff – alphabet system, literacy: theoretical and practical basis of Anjos de Deus theater group.
In 2007, she had the opportunity to present the work with Anjos de Deus theater group at XXV Biannual Conference of International Council of Kinetografia Laban/Labanotation at the National School of Classical and Contemporary Dance in Mexico City. She is a member of the International Council of Kinetografia Laban/Labanotation. In 2006, she participated in the Dance-Theater scenic artist for the researcher worksshop, conducted by Ciane Fernandes, at IX Recife National Theater Festival. Recife, Brazil
Since 2003, she has been teaching the discipline of art, at an elementary level in a private school in João Pessoa.
