Conference side events
In addition to technical sessions and presentations, events include an opening reception on the arrival date, demonstrations of traditional Hungarian Folk Dance, and a dinner in Skanzen, a small picturesque town about 20 km from Budapest.
Budapest 7-day travel card
Those who will use the local public transport to get to the location of the conference, and/or plan to look around in the city, might consider buying a "Budapest 7-day travel card". It is much more cheap than paying tickets for each line used.
Information on the card can be seen here:

Accommodation
Right in the Castle District (about 3-5 minute walking distance from the Institute for Musicology)
1. the Guesthouse of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
www.mtatk.hu/
The site is in English, reservation can be made through an email.
According to latest information, the Guesthouse is planned to be renewed in 2011, and works may happen during the summer period. They can tell anything for sure in Janury or February of 2011.
2. Hotel Kulturinnov
www.mka.hu/hotel.html
The site has only Hungarian text so I detail its possiblilites and prices (calculated with the today exchange rates)
Single room 9.000.- HFt (approx. US$ 41; EUR 33)/night
Double room 14.000.- HFt (approx. US$ 64; EUR 51)/night
Triple room 18.000.- HFt (approx. US$ 82; EUR 66)/night
Both hotels above are around the comfort level of a 3-star hotel.
There are two other options, about 15-20 minutes distance by public transport (tram and bus)
3. Best Western Hotel Orion
www.bestwestern-ce.com/orion
When you open the site, it comes up in German, so you should change the language to English.
a single room is for US$ 84/EUR 70
a double room for US$ 115/EUR 96.
4. Mecure Budapest Buda
www.mercure.com
On the site you can find a price calculator.
The prices are proportional to the number of nights - the more are the number of nights the less is the price.
It seems they have only double rooms, the room prices are the same for a single person,
Calculated with 7 nights:
a double room: US$ 66/EUR 55/night
breakfast/person: US$ 16/EUR 13/night
5. Budapest Hotel
Since the Guesthouse of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences might not be counted upon, I looked for another hotel nearby. It is about 20-25 minutes by public transport form the Institute.
http://www.budapesthotelstart.com/budapest-hotels/budapest-hotel/kepek-szalloda.hu.html
The prices seem quite reasonable now, if booked on the net.
A single room (breakfast is not included) costs approx. US$ 54, or Eur 38.
A single room (breakfast is not included) costs approx. US$ 51, or Eur 36 (sic).
The early booking has the advantage of cancellation without any loss.
Later the prices might raise (US$ 65, or Eur 46), as the bookings let less and less rooms free.
Food:
There is a comparatively cheap, self-service restaurant in a 5-minute walking distance from the Institute for Musicology during the weekdays.
